Abstract
The North Central Regional Center for Rural Development (NCRCRD) is one of four regional centers coordinating rural development research and education throughout the United States. Its mission is to initiate and facilitate rural development research and education programs to improve the social and economic well-being of rural people in the region. This collection (1970-2009, undated) contains annual and monthly reports, meeting minutes, newsletters, publications, slide presentations, and workshop materials. These materials document the administration of the center while it was at Iowa State University and the research on rural life and the educational programming offered to rural communities sponsored by the center during that time. |
Historical note
The North Central Regional Center for Rural Development (NCRCRD) is one of four regional centers coordinating rural development research and education throughout the United States. It is supported by land-grant universities of the North Central region, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and grants and contracts from private foundations. The center was located on the campus of Iowa State University (ISU) until 2009 when it relocated to Michigan State University. The mission of the NCRCRD is to initiate and facilitate rural development research and education programs to improve the social and economic well-being of rural people in the region. The NCRCRD also provides leadership in rural development regionally and nationally by identifying, developing and supporting programs on the vanguard of emerging issues. States in the region include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. |
Collection description
This collection (1970-2009, undated) contains annual and monthly reports, meeting minutes, newsletters, publications, slide presentations, and workshop materials. The meeting minutes are primarily from Board of Directors meetings. Copies of Rural Development News, the NCRCRD newsletter, are included in the collection; cataloged copies can also be found in the University Archives (call no. HN79 A14 R87x). Materials regarding workshops and lectures can include program guides, slides, CD-ROMs, cassette tapes, and videotapes. Most of these videotapes along with many of the publications produced and distributed by NCRCRD are cataloged and can be found by searching the ISU Library catalog. |
