Biographical note

Rosalie Jean Amos was born on July 23, 1931 in Stuart, Iowa. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1949 where she was named salutatorian. She received her B.S. (1953) from Iowa State College (University) and her M.S. (1960) from Cornell University. She then attended Garett Biblical Institute (1960) as a special student. Amos received her Ph.D. (1976) from Cornell University.

Amos worked as an educational missionary (1955-1958) in home economics at Treacher Methodist Girls' School, Taiping, Malaysia. She then worked as an educational missionary (1961-1964) and as an advisor in home economics at the United Christian Schools in Jullundur City, Punjab, India. After her time in India she returned to the United States and worked as an instructor (1970-1972) in a tailoring course at a vocational/technical school in Manhattan, Kansas. In 1973, Amos worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Physical Biology at Cornell University and later she worked as an Assistant Professor (1975-1978) in Home Economics Education at State University College, Oneonta, New York.

Finally, Amos came to Iowa State University where she held a joint appointment as Associate Professor (1978-1999) in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Studies and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. She also served as Head (1998-1999) of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Studies. Amos retired from Iowa State University in 1999.

Rosalie Amos is married to Franklyn B. Amos, Jr. and they have three children: Jennifer Edith, Evelyn Ann, and Lisa Jean.

 

Collection description

This collection (1949-1992, undated) contains biographical information, meeting minutes, agendas, correspondence, news articles and publications. Included in this collection are files regarding student teaching such as handbooks, competency evaluation forms, cooperating teacher lists, and meeting materials. The collection also includes files related to the Faculty Advisory Board, the Development Advisory Team, and the World Food Institute. Biographical information such as copies of resumes and clippings can also be found in the collection.
