Abstract
The Iowa Farmland Value Survey was initiated in 1941 by Iowa State's Department of Economics. These surveys were conducted by faculty and staff of the Department of Economics and tracked the value of high, middle, and low grade farmland, the number of sales, and cost per acre. The results of the survey are published by the University Extension as publication series FM 1825. This collection contains survey sheets, correspondence, news clippings, and press releases documenting the changes in Iowa farmland values between 1941 through 1984. |
Historical note
The Iowa Farmland Value Survey was established in 1941. The survey was originally conducted by staff in Iowa State's Department of Economics in coordination with University Extension. In 2014, responsibility for the survey was shifted to the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development, a unit within the Department of Economics, along with support from ISU Extension and Outreach. The results of the survey are based on reports from individuals actively involved in farmland sales in Iowa, including real estate brokers, farm managers, appraisers, and agricultural lenders. The survey tracks the value of high, middle, and low grade farmland, the number of sales, and cost per acre. |
Collection description
This collection (1941-1984) contains survey sheets sent by the Iowa State University Department of Economics to Iowa realtors yearly from 1941 to 1984, with the exceptions of 1975 and 1980 when it was biannual. The survey tracked the value of high, middle, and low grade farmland, the number of sales, and cost per acre. The collection also contains comments from realtors, correspondence, news clippings about farmland value, and press releases. |
