Biographical note

Millikan Stalker was born August 6, 1841 in Hendricks County, Indiana. He received a B.S. (1873) from Iowa Agricultural College (Iowa State University) and a V.S. from Ontario Veterinary College (1877).

Dr. Stalker was appointed to Iowa Agricultural College as Instructor of Agriculture and Superintendent of the College Farm (1873-1874), Assistant Professor of Agriculture and Superintendent of the College Farm (1875-1876), Professor of Agriculture and Veterinary Science (1877-1879), Head of the School of Veterinary Science (1879-1898), and Dean of the Division of Veterinary Medicine (1898-1900). He continued to lecture until 1908.

Dr. Stalker is credited with establishing the veterinary school at Iowa State, the first state funded veterinary school in the United States. He was also responsible for the first veterinary practice laws in Iowa and the creation of the position of state veterinarian in Iowa.

Dean Stalker passed away June 14, 1909.
