Historical note

Veterinary Anatomy courses have been taught at Iowa State since 1872. The Department of Anatomy and Histology was established in 1912. In 1914, the department was named the Department of Veterinary Anatomy. The Department merged for a four year period (1975-1979) with the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology to form the Department of Veterinary Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology. The title of Department Head was changed to Department Chair in 1979. In 1997, the Department of Veterinary Anatomy again merged with the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology. This time they formed the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
