Historical note

The Transportation Advisory Council was formed in 1983 as a result of the recommendations included in the final report of the ISU Comprehensive Campus Transportation Policy Committee. That committee recommended the dissolution of both the University Traffic Committee and the ISU Transportation Advisory Committee and the creation of the Transportation Advisory Council which would govern movement of all people and materials on campus.

The main purpose of the Transportation Advisory Council is defined on its Website (viewed April 14, 2007) as follows:

"The Council's primary function is to serve as a channel for the expression of user-group opinions and preferences on matters related to parking, streets, traffic signals, public transportation, bikeways, walkways and facilities for commuter, pedestrian, and traffic safety. Colleges, employee and student groups, and several key units are represented on the committee. GSB (Government of the Student Body) representation includes Residence Halls, Greek System, University Student Apartment Community, Off Campus, Out of Town, and Transit Agency.

"The Council meets approximately once every three weeks while classes are in session. Annually, the Council reviews proposals from both Parking Division and the Memorial Union for parking fee rates."
