Biographical note
Myron A. Johnson was born on December 5, 1917. He received his B.S. (1942) from Iowa State College (University) in animal husbandry. Following college, he became a breeder of Holstein cattle. Johnson was a member of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America and developed the John-Acre prefix. The Iowa Meritorious Sire award was given to one of Johnson's cattle in 1948. He later developed three silver medal sires before going to the use of bulls and showed cattle at county, district and state shows. Johnson held numerous offices in professional Holstein breeders' associations at the county and district level. Johnson died on December 15, 1999. |
Collection description
This collection (1925-1998) includes extensive class notes, exams, and papers documenting Johnson's undergraduate study at Iowa State College (University). The collection also contains documents related to Extension Short Courses and continuing education classes that Johnson attended between 1943 and 1948. Other material in the collection include: materials from his study at the Live Stock Marketing School in Chicago in 1941; certificates and awards for Johnson's work as a breeder of Holstein cattle; and Johnson's extensive collection of ephemeral published information on Holstein breeding and published reports on Holstein dispersal. The collection also contains a small amount of biographical material, including Johnson's Iowa State College graduation program, materials reflecting his 4-H participation and an article written in 1991 reflecting on his career. |
