Biographical note

Mary Helen Merriam was born April 22, 1919 in Keokuk, Iowa. She received a B.S. (1941) from Iowa State College/University. She also earned an M.A. from the Indiana University (1946).

While an undergraduate at Iowa State, she belonged to several organizations including, Psi Chi, the Roger Williams Club, Theta Epsilon, and the Science Women's Club. In addition, she worked in the cafeteria of Alice Freeman Hall for two years and for four year she worked as a clerical assistant at the College Hospital.

 

Collection description

The collection contains newsclippings, biographical information, and course material from Mary Helen Merriam Stewart's years at Iowa State. Also in the papers are six postcards of Margaret Hall, five of which depict the fire that destroyed the Hall in 1938. In addition, there are policies regarding the Iowa State College dormitories.
