Biographical note

Raymond L. George grew up in Graettinger and Grinnell, Iowa. He attended (1918-1922) Iowa State College (University). Doris Durey, of Manchester, Iowa, received a BS (1925) in home economics from Iowa State College (University). The couple married following Doris's graduation. Raymond died in 1981, followed by Doris in 1982.

 

Collection description

This collection (ca. 1910-1970s, n.d.) includes two scrapbooks belonging to Doris Durey George, kept during her high school and college years (1918-1925), and four scrapbooks belonging to Raymond L. George covering the same periods. The collection also contains postcards, photocopies, and loose scrapbook pages, as well as letters to Doris from her mother and brother. The scrapbooks created by Doris are filled with news clippings, photos, dance cards, programs and personal memorabilia. The scrapbooks belonging to Raymond have photographs of friends and family; Grinnell, Iowa; Okaboji, Iowa; VEISHEA and military training at Iowa State College (University); military training at Camp Humphreys, Virginia; Niagara Falls, New York; Mt.Vernon, Virginia; and the Abilene, Kansas flood of July 4, 1923.
