Historical note

The Iowa State University Women's Golf program, known in the beginning as the "linksters," began in 1970. The first coach was Joan Gearhart (1970-1985), who was then a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). The first scholarships were awarded (1975) when the program began to have some success by winning state titles from the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) (1974-1975). The Women's Golf team won the Big 8 Conference title and played in its first NCAA tournament in 1993. Iowa State has advanced to play in four NCAA golf team championships (1993-1996).

Head coaches:

  • Joan Gearhart (1970-1985)
  • Julie Manning (1986-2004)
  • Christie Martens (2005- present)
