Historical note

The Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost coordinates and administers the academic and personnel policies of the University. The office also plays a key role in strategic planning, budgetary issues, capital planning, and information technology initiatives. The Executive Vice President and Provost is directly responsible to the President.

The position of Provost was created in 1953 and has undergone several changes over the years. In 1961, it was reorganized as the Vice President for Academic Affairs. In 1988, the title became the Provost again. In 2002, ISU President Gregory Geoffroy recommended that the position title be changed to Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Most recently, in 2006, the title was changed to Executive Vice President and Provost.

Collection description

The collection (1975-2006) contains program reviews and reports related to Iowa State University's accreditation and the accreditation of the various academic departments that make up the University. The files contain self-study reports, reports from external reviewers, responses, and recommendations. Some of the files also include related correspondence and preliminary reports. Files related to the University's accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) also contain minutes, correspondence, and reports of the steering committee responsible for the preparation of the institutional self study report.
