Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy established the President's Advisory Committee on Diversity in 2003. The committee was charged with advising the president on issues relating to diversity and also to assess the campus climate to find areas the university can improve in regards to issues of diversity. The committee was reorganized and renamed the University Committee on Diversity in 2010. This collection includes news clippings, meeting minutes, campus climate assessment reports and presentations, strategic plans for diversity, and annual diversity reports from campus academic and administrative units.

Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy established the President's Advisory Committee on Diversity in 2002. This committee followed in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Steering Committee on Diversity, which was initiated by President Martin Jischke. The goals of Geoffroy's committee were to advise him on actions the university could take to increase the diversity of the faculty, staff, and student populations; elevate the importance of diversity issues on campus; and improve the campus climate for diversity. The committee was composed of members from ISU faculty, staff, and students and the Ames community.

One of the most significant results from the committee was an assessment of the campus climate in relation to issues of diversity. An online survey was conducted in 2003 and analyzed by Rankin & Associates, Consulting. A final report of the results was submitted detailing areas where Iowa State was succeeding in its goals and areas where the university fell short. Based on these results, the university implemented a Strategic Plan for Diversity in 2005.

In 2007, the committee was reorganized into the University Committees on Diversity consisting of the Executive Steering Committee and the Advisory Committee for Diversity Program Planning and Coordination. In 2010, the Advisory Committee was renamed the University Committee on Diversity. This committee is charged with supporting faculty, staff, and administrators in their efforts to improve the campus climate for diversity.

This collection (2002-[ongoing]) contains materials related to the President's Advisory Committee on Diversity and the University Committee on Diversity including meeting minutes, agendas, reports, news clippings, and several publications relating to the assessment of the campus climate for diversity. The collection also included copies of diversity reports from campus academic and administrative units.
