Biographical note

Gordon C. Ashton was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1906. He received his B.A. (1935) from Toronto University, M.S. (1939) from McGill Univeristy, and Ph.D. (1955) from North Carolina State College.

While at McGill University, Ashton was also an Assistant Experimentalist in Animal Nutrition (1935-1946), Lecturer in Animal Nutrition (1946-1948), and an Assistant Professor in Animal Nutrition. He came to Iowa State College (University) as an Assistant Professor in Animal Science (1951-1956). He specialized in animal nutrition, particularly interested in the use of various supplements and types of grains fed to swine. Ashton was a member of Gamma Sigma Delta and Sigma Xi.

 

Collection description

This collection contains biographical information and a bibliography of publications relating to the nutrition of swine. The papers also include correspondence with the general public in regards to the nutritional needs of swine. The subjects discussed include descriptions of hog feeding, raising pigs without sows, directions and precautions in feeding, and swine research centers.
