Biographical note

Rudolf E. Schipull was born November 14, 1892 and died February 14, 1988. In addition to running his farm in Goldfield, Iowa, Schipull was active in several local cooperatives and other Iowa organizations. He served as president and on the Board of Directors of the Farmers Elevator Cooperative. Schipull also served on the Study and Conference Committee for the Iowa Institute of Cooperation in Ames, Iowa.

Schipull served many leadership positions with the cooperatives and other organizations. He served as vice-president (1937) of the W. & H. Cooperative Oil Company based in Badger, Iowa. He also served on the Board of Directors of the First National Loan Association of Eagle Grove, Iowa and as the secretary-treasurer for the Goldfield Rural Fire Association. In addition, Schipull served as vice president of the North Central Iowa Aberdeen Angus Association in 1946 and as president in 1947.

Collection description

This collection (1918-1987, n.d.) contains Schipull's farm records including inventory records, financial records, a cattle breeding journal, and records related to the cooperatives with which he was involved including pamphlets, brochures, news clippings, memoranda, correspondence and minutes.

The inventory records are in cloth and paper bound journals from 1918-1982, and are separated by year. There are additional inventory and financial records covering the years 1919-1920 and 1939-1982. These include inventories of machinery, stock and crops and cash receipts and expenses. Also included is a journal of cattle breeding records for the years 1922-1944. An interesting item in the collection is the record of expenditures on Schipull's 1938 Studebaker, a car he won from the Proctor and Gamble Soap Company for "writing the best reasons (not over 25 words)" why he used Ivory soap. The original advertisement for the contest is included in the front cover of the record book. Also included are reports and other publications from organizations in which Schipull was a member, officer, or board member and an account book belonging to Rudolf's father, Charles Schipull. His account book details transactions between himself and the bank, several customers, and transactions with his son, Rudolf.

For a related collection, see the Iowa Institute for Cooperatives Records (MS-126).
