Engineer T. R. (Thomas Radford) Agg was born in Fairfield, Iowa, on May 17, 1878. He attended Oskaloosa High School in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He received his B.S (1905) from Iowa State College (University) in Electrical Engineering. At Iowa State, Agg served as Assistant Professor (1913-1915) and Professor (1916-1946) of civil engineering. Agg was named Dean of Engineering and Director of the Engineering Extension Experiment Station (1932-1946). He retired from administrative duties on June 30, 1946. This collection contains biographical information, correspondence, published works, reports, and speeches. The collection also contains other printed materials relating to roads and highway engineering. |
T. R. (Thomas Radford) Agg was born in Fairfield, Iowa, on May 17, 1878. He attended Oskaloosa High School in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He received his B.S (1905) from Iowa State College (University) in electrical engineering and his professional degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State in 1914. After earning his undergraduate degree, he served as an instructor at the University of Illinois for three years (1905-1908) and worked for the Illinois State Highway Department as a Road Engineer for five years (1908-1913). He returned to Iowa State College (University) and served as Assistant Professor (1913-1915) and Professor (1916-1946). Agg was named Dean of Engineering and Director of the Engineering Extension Experiment Station (1932-1946). He retired from administrative duties on June 30, 1946. After his retirement, he returned to full-time research in highway engineering. He married Lois Woodman (1906) and had two daughters, Alice Jane and Mariel. Agg died on May 7, 1947, at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa. He is interred at the Iowa State Cemetery. |
