Biographical note

George Pagels, Jr. (1913-2005) received his M.S. (1935) from Iowa State College (University) after receiving his B.S. (1934) from the University of Illinois. He was an instructor (1935) in the Theoretical and Applied Mechanics Department at Iowa State. After leaving Iowa State, he became an engineer with Penetryn Systems, Inc. (1936-1944) specializing in bridge construction and repair. He also worked as a contractor at his father's company, the George Pagels Company in Illinois (1940-1944). As a Lieutenant Commander for the U.S. Navy Civil Engineering Corps (1944-1946,) he helped with the build-up, invasion of Normandy, and follow-up operations. He returned to the private sector as the Vice President of Penetryn Systems, Inc. (1946). He later returned to the George Pagels Company and served as president until his retirement. He passed away on November 23, 2005, at the age of 92.

 

Collection description

This collection (1931-2006, n.d.) contains papers, notebooks, tests and quizzes from George Pagels' time as student and teacher from Northwestern University, University of Illinois, and Iowa State College. His master's thesis, "Supporting Strength of Reinforced Concrete Box Culverts," is also included.
