Biographical note

Rosalind Engel received a B.A. (1956) from Iowa Wesleyan College and an M.A. (1964) from the University of Iowa.

Prior to coming to Iowa State University, Engel taught in elementary schools in Elgin, Winfield, Iowa City, Coralville, and Ames, Iowa. She joined the ISU faculty in 1967 as an instructor in the Child Development Department. In 1968, she taught in the College of Education. Engel returned to the Child Development Department in 1971 and was elected faculty member of the year in the College of Home Economics. She became an assistant professor in 1972, an associate professor in 1979, and a full professor in 1986. In 1988, Engel retired from Iowa State University and was named Professor Emeritus. Her main area of research was children's literature, especially for pre-school to fifth grade children, and its effects on the intellectual and emotional growth of children.
