Eleanore Kohlmann was born April 25, 1916 in Dubuque, Iowa. She received a B.S. (1941) in secondary education from the University of Dubuque and an M.S. (1951) in home economics education and a Ph.D. (1961) in home economics education from Iowa State University. She taught in the Garnavillo, Iowa schools (1941-1944) as an English and home economics teacher, as well as in the Wheaton, Illinois Community High School (1944-1949) where she was a home economics teacher and the Head of the Practical Arts Department. Dr. Kohlmann was also a supervisor of home economics education (1949-1957) with the Iowa Department of Public Instruction. She began her career at Iowa State College (University) as a graduate research assistant (1957-1959), then became an instructor (1959-1960), an Assistant Professor (1960-1963), an Associate Professor (1963-1969), and Professor (1969-1978) in home economics education. In 1962, she was invited to become a member of the Home Economics Research Committee, which made recommendations to the Department of Agriculture in production, utilization, and marketing related to education. She died in 1978 and received a Faculty Citation (1978) posthumously. |
