Biographical  note
Jimmie Howard Reynolds (1925-    ) was born February 19, 1925 in Wichita, Kansas. Reynolds graduated from Byrd High School (1942) in Shreveport, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana Polytechnic University (1943-1944), Louisiana State University (1946-1948), and the University of Michigan (1948-1949, 1970-1971). He received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Louisiana State University (1948) and a Master of Music Education degree (1949) from the University of Michigan. Reynolds served in the United States Navy (1943-1946) and was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Reynolds was employed as the Director of Bands at Miami Edison High School, Miami, Florida (1949-1951); and as the Assistant Director of Bands by Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana (1951-1952). He was the Director of Instrumental Music at Carr Central High School, Vicksburg, Mississippi (1952-1953); and at ISTROMA High School, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, (1955-1959). Reynolds served as Director of Bands at Peabody/Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee (1959-1962); and as Director of Bands and Head of the Department of Music at Louisiana Polytechnic University, Ruston, Louisiana (1962-1972). Reynolds was affiliated with the Iowa State University Department of Music as the Conductor of Bands and Associate Professor of Music (1972-1982).

Reynolds was a member of the National Band Association, College Band Directors National Association, Omicron Delta Pi, and the Rotary Club.

 

Collection Description

The collection contains contains biographical information, College Band Directors National Association materials, professional correspondence, and teaching materials. The papers also include photographic prints in an assortment of sizes including 4x5, 5x7, 8x10, and panoramic (337 black & white and 6 color); and negatives (9 black and white) of Jimmie H. Reynolds and high school, college, and unidentified bands.
