Biographical note

J. L. Laffoon was a professor of Zoology/Entomology at Iowa State Agriculture College/Iowa State University from 1953 to 1971. Laffoon engaged in a vast array of biological research but was primarily interested in systematic zoological, or the identification and labeling of insect species and types. His primary area of research was in the field of mosquito control and fungus gnats.

 

Collection description

This collection contains Laffoon's professional correspondence with fellow entomologists, former students, and regarding his work in the Entomological Society of America. Collection also includes research notes, principally on mosquito ecology, publications of Laffoon and other authors, as well as course and lecture notes, and copies of grant applications. Also contains material related to systematic zoology and the International Congress of Entomology.
