Robert Stewart was born in Washington, D. C. on May 6, 1924. He received a B.S. (1945) in Electrical Engineering, and a Ph.D. (1954) in Physics from Iowa State College (University). While at Iowa State College (University), he was an instructor (1946-48) in Electrical Engineering; Assistant Professor (1954-1956) in Physics; Associate Professor (1956-1960) in Physics; Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering (1958-1960); Professor (1960-1988) in Physics and Electrical Engineering; and Professor (1965-1988) in Computer Science. He was the Chairman of the Department of Computer Science (1984-1986). Dr. Stewart became Professor Emeritus in 1988, and currently lives in Ames, Iowa. He married Patricia Mary Alberding and they had two children: Martha and Scott. |
This collection (1930-1988, undated) contains Dr. Stewart's correspondence, biographical information, papers, proposals, and research program notes relating to atmospheric research. In an interesting computer historical note, he is the professor who dismantled the Atanasoff-Berry Computer (ABC) (generally thought of as the world's first electronic digital computer built on the Iowa State College (University) campus by Dr. John Vincent Atanasoff and graduate student Clifford Berry). Other highlights include a film script: "...From One John V. Atanasoff..." and correspondence with Dr. John Vincent Atanasoff. |
The collection is arranged in alphabetical order. |
