Biographical note

Albert L. Baker was born in San Francisco, California on September 29, 1949. He received a B.A. (1974) in Mathematics from Drake University, and an M.S. (1976) and Ph.D. (1979) in Computer Science from Ohio State University. Prior to coming to Iowa State, Baker was an Assistant Professor (1979-1980) of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse and Vice President and Director of Operations (1981-1982) of Quester (Des Moines, Iowa). He began his career at Iowa State University as an Assistant Professor (1982-1989) and was promoted to Associate Professor (1989-2001). His major areas of research included natural language text analysis and software engineering particularly specification languages and CASE Tools. He left Iowa State in 2001.

He married Betty Baker, and they had two children: Jared Frederich, and Jessie Erin.
