Abstract
Kothari was an Assistant Professor (1984), Associate Professor (1987), and Professor (1994) of computer science at Iowa State University, serving as Acting Chair of the Computer Science Department from June-December 1991. He received his Ph.D. (1977) in mathematics from Purdue University. His main research interests were in parallel processing and supercomputers. This collection includes biographical information, memorandums, news clippings, papers, proposals, and a research grant agreement. |
Biographical note
Suraj Kothari was born March 14, 1951, in India. He received his B.S. (1970) in mathematics at University of Poona, M.S. (1972) in mathematics at University of Poona, and Ph.D. (1977) in mathematics from Purdue University. Kothari was Assistant Professor (1980-1984) at the University of Oklahoma. He was then Assistant Professor (1984) and Associate Professor (1987) at Iowa State University and served as Acting Chair of the Computer Science Department from June-December 1991. He was promoted to Professor in 1994. His main research interests were parallel processing and supercomputers. Kothari was a member of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). In 1991 he was selected to serve on the United Nations Transfer of Knowledge Through Expatriate Nationals (TOKTEN) program as a Distinguished Technologist. He also received an Outstanding Teacher Award (1979) from Southern Illinois University, the David Ross Fellowship (1975-1976) at Purdue University, and the National Science Talent Scholarship from the National Council of Scientific and Industrial Research of India. |
