Abstract

John James Streets was a veterinarian and citrus grower from Ventura, California. He received his D.V.M. (1886) from the Iowa Agricultural College (Iowa State University) and continued his studies at the American Veterinary College in New York. He moved to Ventura and worked as a verterinarian and county livestock inspector for over 45 years and operated a citrus farm. This collection contains two notebooks containing handwritten lecture notes recorded by J. J. Streets while attending classes at the American Veterinary College in New York. The lecture notes are from courses in cattle and equine pathology.

 

Biographical note

John James Streets was born in Crete, Illinois, on September 8, 1863, to John W. and Martha S. Streets. He received his D.V.M. (1886) from the Iowa Agricultural College (Iowa State University). At Iowa State, Streets served as an editor of the Students' Farm Journal. He moved to Ventura, California, where he worked as a county livestock inspector for over 45 years and also operated a citrus farm. He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Streets married Alice Drucker in 1889 and they had three children: Margaret, Gertrude, and James.

 

Collection description

The collection (1887-1888) contains two volumes of lecture notes on veterinary medicine, specifically cattle and equine pathology. These notes were recorded by J. J. Streets while attending classes at the American Veterinary College in New York.
