Abstract

Charles Alfred Norman was born in Logan, Iowa, on March 16, 1890. He earned a B.S. (1914) in Agricultural Engineering from Iowa State College (University). This collection contains a photograph album with 84 black and white picture postcards depicting campus buildings, athletics teams, and student life at Iowa State during Norman's time in college.

 

Biographical note

Charles Alfred Norman was born in Logan, Iowa on March 16, 1890. He earned a B.S. (1914) in Agricultural Engineering at Iowa State College (University) and M.S. (1916) in Agriculture from Purdue University. While at Purdue (1914-1915), he was an instructor in farm mechanics. During his lifetime, Norman worked for the Etna Life Insurance Company for two years, followed by thirteen years as an employee of the farm management and loan division of the Mutual Insurance Company of Omaha. He spent the latter part of his life on his farm in Calhoun Township southwest of Logan.

Norman and his wife, Edith, had three sons: H. Melvin, Charles A., and Ralph S. Charles Norman died on November 21, 1963, and he is buried in the cemetery at Logan, Iowa.

 

Collection description

This collection (1913-1914) contains a photograph album with 84 black and white picture postcards depicting campus buildings, athletics teams, and student life at Iowa State. A 1914 commencement program and letter to his parents were removed from an envelope attached to the inside front cover of the album and placed in a separate folder.
