Fred B. Hanson was born in Inwood, Iowa, on November 20, 1888, the son of pioneer parents. He received his education in Lyon County (Iowa) and at Lenox College (Hopkinton, Iowa) and Iowa State University (1913). Hanson served as Extension Director of Harrison county, as Project Manager at Granger Homesteads, School Secretary; an Agent with Farm Bureau Insurance; and Secretary of the Mitchell County (Iowa) Fair. Beginning in 1961, he served four terms in the Iowa House of Representatives, representing Howard and Mitchell counties. Hanson was active in school, community, and cooperative enterprises at Inwood, Logan, Granger, and Osage, Iowa. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Rotary, Masons, Eastern Star, Farm Bureau, and Illinois Reserve Militia during World War II. |
The collection (1961-1970) contains press releases, letters to the editors of country papers and letters to constituents regarding his position on important legislative matters, such as school transportation and taxation. The papers also contains legislative newsletter, which were written by Hanson weekly during his four terms in office. In addition, the collection includes a speech Hanson gave to the United Methodist Church in Osage, Iowa entitled "What Does Modern Civilization Owe to Future Generations?" |
