Abstract

Clarence Duncan Chamberlin was born in Denison, Iowa on November 11, 1893. He attended Iowa State College from 1915 to 1916. After leaving college, he worked in the automobile, motor cycle and tire repair business in Denison. He enlisted in the Balloon Corps at Omaha Nebraska at the beginning of World War I; and was later transferred to the Aviation Corps and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. After the war he went to New York City and began work in the aviation industry. On April 14, 1927 he and a copilot set an endurance record of 51 hours, 11 minutes and 25 seconds in the air. He achieved many other firsts in aviation. He died at Shelton, Connecticut on October 30, 1976.
