Edward Clinton Vandenburgh was born in Audobon, Iowa, on March 26, 1887, to Edward C. and Kate (Feltus) Vandenburgh. He received his B.S. (1908) in civil engineering from Iowa State College (University). Upon graduation he took a position as tapeman with the Chicago and North Western Railway System and eventually ascended to chief engineer. Vandenburgh retired from the company in 1952. Vandenburgh's fiftieth class reunion (1958) coincided with Iowa State College's centennial anniversary during which he received the Centennial Award from the Iowa State College Alumni Association. Vandenburgh married Charlotte Knowles on June 3, 1913, with whom he had two sons: Edward Clinton III and Garret Knowles. Vandenburgh died on January 6, 1969. His son, Edward C. Vandenburgh III received his B.S. (1937) in general engineering from Iowa State College (University). As a student, he was a member of the Iowa State Players, the General Engineering Society, and Sigma Nu fraternity. |
