Historical note
The Iowa State University solar car team, Team PrISUm, is a student-run organization started in 1989, which designs, builds, and races solar powered electric vehicles in the American Solar Challenge (previously known as Sunrayce). Teams have two years between races to design, construct, and test their cars. They are also responsible for raising funds and acquiring parts for the construction of the solar car. The College of Engineering provides Team PrISUm with office space and a garage for the car in Sweeney Hall. The team is composed of students from a variety of backgrounds including engineering, design, and business. Team PrISUm also focuses on outreach projects and education to raise awareness about solar energy and efficient transportation and displays the cars at events on campus and throughout the state. Collection description
This collection (1989-[ongoing]) is comprised of news clippings, proposals, statistics, fundraising information, newsletters, financial reports, solar car and race information, videotapes, and photographs. Some of the solar cars are more thoroughly documented than others. The team's newsletter, "The Sundial", contains valuable information on the development of each car. Other information that may be available for each car includes design notes, fundraising files, news clippings, and brochures. Files relating to Sunrayce and the American Solar Challenge include correspondence, proposals, race regulations, and route books. The collection also contains a number of videotapes and a large number of photographs. The videotapes (VHS) include footage of solar car construction, races, news segments, and design meetings. The photographs include images of team members, solar car construction, racing images, and outreach projects. |
