Historical note

On February 2, 2004, Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy announced that the Colleges of Education and Family and Consumer Sciences would be combined. The 17 members of the Planning Committee for the Combination of the Colleges of Education and Family and Consumer Sciences were appointed by the Provost's Office and chaired by Susan Carlson, Professor of English and Associate Provost. The committee was composed of faculty and staff from the two colleges and charged with the task of forming plans for the combination. Working groups were established to study such topics as the college's name and mission, curricular issues, selection of a new dean, and student services. Input was gathered from faculty, staff, students, and alumni through open forums and preference polls. The committee released its report on October 18, 2004 and the report was subsequently approved by the Faculty Senate, President Geoffroy, and the Board of Regents. The combination is scheduled to take place July 1, 2005.
