Biographical note

Joe P. Colletti was born on August 25, 1949, in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. He received his B.S. (1972) in forestry from Humboldt State University, and both his M.S. (1974) and Ph.D. (1978) in forest economics from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Dr. Colletti joined the faculty of Iowa State University as Instructor (1978) in the Department of Forestry. He was promoted to Assistant Professor (1978-1983) and Associate Professor (1983-present). Dr. Colletti also served as interim chair (2004) of the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management, the academic unit comprised of the former Departments of Forestry and Animal Ecology.

Dr. Colletti's research emphasis is on the economics of short-rotation woody crops, agroforestry systems, and optimization models of forestry and agroforestry systems. Topics in this area of research include: the cost-effectiveness of dedicated woody and herbaceous biofuels production and utilization systems for the Midwest region, and the benefits and costs of agroforestry systems (such as alleycropping with biosolids, constructed multi-species riparian buffer strips, and dynamic field shelterbelts) for the Midwest.

He and his wife, Sharon, have a daughter, Staci.
