Biographical note

Richard B. Hall was born March 24, 1947, in Mendota, Illinois. He received his B.S. (1969) in forest management from Iowa State University and his Ph.D. (1974) in plant breeding/plant genetics (forestry) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Dr. Hall joined the Forestry Department at Iowa State University as a Research Associate (1974). He was promoted to Assistant Professor (1974-1977), Associate Professor (1977-1983), and Professor (1983-present). As of 2008, he is Professor of Forestry in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management at Iowa State University.

Research conducted by Dr. Hall focuses on genetic selection and short-rotation silviculture. One of his current projects (2008) includes selection of genetically superior tree species for use in the biofuels and new products industries.

Dr. Hall and his wife, Beverly, have two children: Janelle and Christine.

 

Collection description

The collection (1976-[ongoing]) primarily consists of published articles and research proposals of Richard B. Hall, Professor of Forestry in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management at Iowa State University. The collection also includes biographical information and an annual report for the Breeding Alnus for Intensive Culture of Biomass for Energy Project, sponsored by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, United States Department of Energy.
