Iowa State College (University) first offered courses in Farm Mechanics in 1903. The Department of Agronomy administered these courses from 1906 until 1910. In 1910, the Department of Agricultural Engineering was formally established. The two-year program leading to a Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering was initiated in 1906 and developed into a four-year program in 1908. The department was renamed Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering in 1990 and is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and the College of Engineering. In 2004, the department merged with the Department of Industrial Education and Technology. |
This collection (1931-1941) consists of yearly reports documenting work conducted under a cooperative agreement by the Agricultural Engineering Section of the Iowa Agricultural Experiment Station and the Bureau of Agricultural Engineering of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The reports contain photographic and written documentation describing the results of experimental farm machinery used for preparing field beds, planting, and harvesting corn and, later, hay. |
The collection is organized chronologically. |
