Historical note

The Black Hawk County Association of Cooperatives was established December 15, 1952 in Waterloo, Iowa. Begun at the urging of Paul Barger, the Black Hawk County Extension Director at the time, and Orville Skattom of Members Mutual Oil Company, the Association's goal is "more cooperation between the cooperatives." Fifteen groups representing dairy, grain, oil, insurance and farm lending companies were members at the start. As of 1976, eleven remained. In addition to promoting mutual understanding between area cooperatives, the Association supported youth activities and for many years provided financial support to the county's 4-H achievement banquet.
