Faye Cashatt Lewis, a native Iowan, was born (1896) in Carroll County. She graduated (1919) from the University of South Dakota-Vermillion and then obtained her M.D. (1921) in medicine from Washington University in St. Louis. She moved back to Iowa with her husband, William Benjamin Lewis, and they resided in Kamrar (1923-1928) and Webster City. After her children were grown, she practiced medicine (1943-1970). She wrote numerous books about her life and experiences, including Doc's Wife (1940); Patients, Doctors, and Families (1968); A Doctor Looks at Health Trouble (1970) and All Out Against Arthritis (1973). Her articles also appeared in The Atlantic, Today's Health, Alaska Sportsman, Medical Economics and other verse and prose pieces in various publications. |
