Abstract

The American Home Economics Association (AHEA) was founded in 1909 and changed its name to the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) in 1994. The AAFCS is a professional society for Family and Consumer Sciences professionals. The Education and Technology Division (formerly the Teacher Education Section) focused on professional educators in secondary education, higher education and community settings interested in curriculum development, instructional methodology and technology, and planning and evaluation of family and consumer sciences programs. This collection contains correspondence, committee and meeting materials, handbooks and materials related to the Yearbook. Published for home economics/family and consumer education instructors, the Yearbook provided information to prospective housewives.

 

Historical note

The American Home Economics Association (AHEA) was founded by Ellen H. Richards in 1909. The organization's name was changed to the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) in 1994. The AAFCS is dedicated to Family and Consumer Sciences professionals and strives to improve the quality and standards of individual and family life by providing educational programs, influencing public policy, and communication.

The Education and Technology Division (formerly the Teacher Education Section) focused on professional educators in secondary education, higher education and community settings interested in curriculum development, instructional methodology and technology, and planning and evaluation of family and consumer sciences programs.

 

Collection description

This collection (1951-1993, undated) contains materials from the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Technology Division including correspondence, committee and meeting materials, handbooks and yearbooks. The Yearbook was published from 1981-2001, and then after 2002 was published in CD form. Published for home economics/family and consumer sciences education teachers, the Yearbook provided information to prospective housewives.
