Biographical note
Joseph Ludwig and his sister Agnes ran a century farm outside of Spillville, Iowa. The farm was originally purchased by Joseph and Agnes' grandfather, Jon, in 1858, ten years after he arrived in America from Germany. He left the farm to his son Albert who raised hogs and cattle, in addition to making several improvements to the farm buildings and equipment. After his death in 1928, his wife continued to run the farm with their children, Joseph and Agnes, who eventually took over operations of the now 425 acres of land. The Ludwig family proudly owned and operated the farm themselves until Joseph's death in 2002. The farm stayed in the Ludwig family for 144 years. |
Collection description
This collection (1939-1987, undated) contains the record books of Joseph Ludwig. Each record book is dated and contains feed checks, receipts, and livestock inventories, lists of expenditures, crop records, and yearly summaries of expenditures, receipts, and net income by the Ludwig farm. Also included is biographical information about the Ludwig farm in the form of a news clipping and photographs of the farm, Joseph Ludwig, and his sister Agnes Ludwig. |
