Biographical note

Clementine "Clemmie" M. Harris was born Clementine M. Bruce in 1845 to Harvey and Mary Jane Bruce. She lived most of her life in Springville, Iowa, and is considered to be a pioneer resident of the town, which officially became a town in 1881. Harris was a long-time member of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society and served as the organization's secretary for a time. She died in 1913 and is buried in the Springville Cemetery.

 

Collection description

This collection (1898-1937) contains ten diaries kept by Clementine "Clemmie" M. Harris between the years 1898-1911. These diaries contain information about Mrs. Harris' daily life in Springville, Iowa. Included within some of the diaries are newspaper clippings regarding deaths of friends in Springville, as well as clippings about local events. The collection also contains several newspaper cliggings, including an obituary.
