Political cartoons have concisely captured contemporary issues for centuries. |
This collection contains a cartoon from Puck magazine and a collection of Ding Darling cartoons which were printed in the Des Moines Register. Puck was founded in 1876 by Joseph Keppler (1838-1894) in 1876. The drawing on the front page of Puck and the double-spread in the middle were political while the one on the back cover usually dealt with social issues. James Norwood "Ding" Darling (1876-1962) was a nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist who joined the Des Moines Register staff in 1906. He was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes for his work, one in 1924 and one in 1942. |
