Harry Rex Porter was an Iowa State College (University) graduate (1901) from Woodbine, Iowa. He married Harriet Hasbrouck, a 1900 Iowa State graduate, and moved to Vancouver, Washington. This collection includes biographical information, personal correspondence, illustrations used in the 1900 Bomb (Iowa State's yearbook), and photographs of campus life. |
Harry Rex Porter was born on September 30, 1877, in Woodbine, Iowa. He received his B.S. (1901) in agriculture from Iowa State College (University). As a student, Porter created illustrations that were used in the 1900 Bomb, Iowa State's yearbook, and was a member of the Ag Club. Porter's first job after college was as bookkeeper for the National Bank of Commerce. He later moved to Vancouver, Washington, and was employed in the real estate and insurance industries. He eventually opened his own real estate office in 1923. Porter married Harriet Hasbrouck on June 8, 1905, in Humeston, Iowa. Harriet was also a graduate of Iowa State and received her B.S. (1900) in general and domestic science. Following graduation, she served as secretary (1900-1902) to President Beardshear. The Porters had four daughters: Lucile, Beulah, Mildred, and Margaret. Harry Rex Porter died on November 23, 1972, at the age of 95 in Vancouver, Washington. |
