Abstract

Lillian E. Seydel Rich Sorden (1898-1987) earned her B.S. (1926) in Home Economics from Iowa State College (University). After graduating from Iowa State she taught home economics in Keota and Sioux City, Iowa. This collection contains a scrapbook that documents Sorden’s college life and her life after graduation. The college memorabilia in the scrapbook includes programs, letters, clippings, photographs, and materials related to Kappa Phi sorority. Photographs include images of campus buildings, Sorden’s family and friends, and social gatherings associated with Kappa Phi.

 

Biographical note

Lillian E. Seydel was born May 28, 1898. She attended Iowa State College (University) intermittently between 1917 and 1926, earning a B.S. (1926) in Home Economics. She was a member of Kappa Phi sorority. After graduating from Iowa State, Seydel taught home economics in Keota and Sioux City, Iowa. On August 2, 1935, she married A. Bass Rich in Sioux City. They lived in Leroy, Iowa, where he was the Superintendent of Schools. She married Leland Sorden in 1972. She died on May 19, 1987.

 

Collection description

This collection (1911-1971) consists of a scrapbook containing college memorabilia including classification cards, programs, correspondence, clippings, photographs, and documents related to Kappa Phi sorority. The photographs include images of campus buildings, family, friends, and social gatherings associated with Kappa Phi. The scrapbook documents her college days and her life after graduation.
