Abstract
The Athletic Director (A.D.) at Iowa State University manages the entire Athletic Department. The A.D. hires the head coaches for all men's and women's varsity sports and is also in charge of fundraising, creating a budget, and allocating funds. This collection contains rule and guideline books from the Big 8 and Missouri Valley conferences and Iowa State University. There are also historical record books, schedules, related newsletters and articles, and other general information. |
Historical note
The Athletic Director (A.D.) at Iowa State University manages the entire Athletic Department. The A.D. hires the head coaches for all men's and women's varsity sports and is also in charge of fundraising, budgeting, and allocating funds. Samuel Beyer was hailed as "a father of Iowa State athletics" by Earl Ross due to Beyer's service of running the athletic programs in Iowa State's early years (1898-1930 ca.). Beyer was instrumental in the formation of the Missouri Valley Conference, Iowa State's first conference affiliation (1907). He laid the foundation for those who would follow him as Iowa State athletic teams later participated in the Big 6, Big 7, Big 8, and Big 12 Conferences. (See also RS 13/1/14, Samuel W.
