Ruth Stella Gallup was born May 27, 1891 to George H. and Stella (Roberts) Gallup in Jefferson, Iowa. She graduated with a B.A. (1912) from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She married Dr. William Bruce (W. B.) Armstrong April 25, 1914 and they had two sons, William Bruce Jr., and another who died during World War II. The couple resided for many years in Ames, Iowa.  

Armstrong developed an interest in Eastern culture at an early age and became an amateur expert on Indian culture. The Iowa State University Press published her book, Sisters under the Sari in 1964.  

Armstrong died October 4, 1972.

This collection contains Armstrong's notes for her book, Sisters under the Sari, including galley proofs, as well as some vital information about Armstrong and her family.

The collection is arranged chronologically.
