Historical note

Pheasants Forever, Inc. is a national nonprofit conservation organization concerned with the restoration and development of wildlife habitat. The Story County Chapter is one of more than 600 chapters in North America and one of 103 chapters in the state of Iowa. Story County Pheasants Forever was organized in 1986 under the presidency of Roger Immel.

Story County Pheasants Forever works with local and state agencies as well as other conservation groups to improve wildlife habitat through land acquisition and restoration projects. The Colo Bogs Wildlife Management Area is one such area that has greatly benefited from this type of activity. Story County Pheasants Forever also cooperates with private landowners to develop wildlife habitat and supports youth education of wildlife-friendly land management practices. The organization funds these activities through membership dues and fund-raising events throughout the year, the most important event being the annual banquet held in the fall.

Collection description

This collection (1986-[ongoing]) contains records of the Story County (Iowa) Chapter of Pheasants Forever. The records consist of annual banquet planning materials, programs, and correspondence; Board of Directors minutes and agendas; member correspondence; newsletters; materials related to land acquisitions and donations; promotional and fund-raising materials; and news clippings. The collection also contains a limited amount of printed materials from Iowa Pheasants Forever and other Iowa county chapters of Pheasants Forever.
