Biographical note

Kenneth Duane Weide was born May 19, 1933 in Horton, Kansas. He received his B.S. (1956), DVM (1958) and MS (1958) from Kansas State University, and received his Ph.D. (1962) in pathology from Michigan State University.

He worked as a veterinarian in private practice in Missouri (1958-1959) prior to taking a position (1959-1962) in the Department of Veterinary Science, Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station (now Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center). He was Associate Professor of Pathology and Director of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (1962-1967) at Kansas State University. He then went to work at South Dakota State University (1967-1971) where he was Professor of Veterinary Science. He served as Head of the Department and Director of the South Dakota Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory. Before serving as Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri-Columbia, he was animal pathologist and extension veterinarian at the University of Arizona. Weide's last day as Dean was February 27, 1981. He then returned to teaching and diagnostic pathology before leaving the University of Missouri-Columbia to become executive director of the Western States Veterinary Conference. Weide was an active member of the Western Veterinary Conference, serving as President (1980) and executive director.
