Historical note

The Fairfield (Iowa) Bird Club was organized on March 2, 1933. The first meeting was held at the Fairfield Public Library. The club elected the following officers: Mrs. A. E. Labagh (President), Mrs. Mildrede Williams (Vice-President), Mr. Paul S. Junkin (Secretary), and Mrs. Fran Ricksher (Treasurer). A Program Committee was appointed. Members of the Program Committee were Mrs. C. J. Fulton, Mrs. John Auckland, and Mrs. Mildrede Williams. Meeting on a monthly basis, the original dues were set at 25 cents per year. Meetings consisted of informational presentations and discussions about birds, with refreshments served after the presentations.

The last set of minutes in this collection is dated November 20, 1952. On April 24, 1954, the feeding fund account set up by the club at the First National Bank of Fairfield, Fairfield, Iowa, was closed.
