Biographical note

Charles William Rutschky was born May 23, 1923 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Rutschky earned his B.S. (1943) from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. (1949) from Cornell University in entomology.

Rutschky was employed as an Investigator of Fruit Insects (1947-1949) by the New York Agricultural Experiment Station, Assistant and Associate Professor of Entomology (1949-1962) at Pennsylvania State University, Professor (1962-1964) at the University of Hawaii, Professor of Entomology (1965-1986) at Pennsylvania State University, and serves as a Professor Emeritus of Entomology (1986- ) at Pennsylvania State University.

Rutschky is a member of the Entomology Society of America (ESA) and is the author of Entomology, a catalog of instructional materials (1983).

 

Collection description

The collection (1889-1987, n.d.) contains entomological papers, articles, textbooks and other publications; professional organization's newsletters, presidential addresses, meeting/conference materials, and presentations including text, slides and audiotapes; teaching workshop materials including notes, photographs, brochures, and printed materials; histories of entomology departments; correspondence; exhibit catalogs of entomology exhibits at various World's Fairs; United States Department of Agriculture Bureau of Entomology disease investigations; and photographs of entomologists. All materials in the collection are related to entomology.
