He lived in Iowa from 1869 to 1874 and from 1893 until his death in 1908. This collection contains listings and catalogs of plants from Europe; Connecticut; Louisiana; Wichita, Kansas and Clarksville, Tennessee; and a catalog of plants for exchange to Budapest, Hungary. Also included is a news clipping about Andrews and his plant collection by Iowa State botany professor Louis H. Pammel.

Biographical note

Botanist Timothy Langdon Andrews was born in Danbury, Connecticut on May 19, 1819. He graduated from Cornwall Academy and afterwards received his Doctor of Medicine degree (1845) from Vermont Medical College. In 1849 he was selected to serve as physician and surgeon on a ship carrying emancipated slaves to Liberia. After the voyage he landed in San Francisco, California where he gathered plants and started his herbarium (which was donated to Iowa State in 1903). In the following years he went to the Samoan Islands, traveled in Panama, settled in Marietta, Ohio where he was editor of the Intelligencer, and then lived in Niagara Falls (1862-1869). In 1869 he settled in Adair County, Iowa where he practiced medicine and farming.  After the death of his first wife, he moved to Creston, Iowa in 1874 where he practiced medicine until 1883 when he moved to Wichita, Kansas. He practiced medicine in Wichita until 1890 when he moved to St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1892 he returned to Iowa and resided in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa until his death.
