Abstract

Iowa Forage and Grassland Council (IFGC) was established on May 25, 1976, and was organized to develop and coordinate more efficient production and use of forage crops. This collection (1976-2002) contains administrative records, photographs, brochures, and correspondence.

Historical note

The Iowa Forage and Grassland Council (IFGC) was established on May 25, 1976, during a meeting of Iowa farmers and workers in the public and private sectors held at Iowa State University. The main goal of the organization was to develop and coordinate more efficient production and use of forage crops. The IFGC constitution lists the objectives as "promoting the profitable production and utilization of forage as a prime source of feed and food products, to provide a forum to stimulate interaction between producers and workers, from both private and public sectors that have a mutual interest in forage production, utilization and marketing, and to encourage industry and organizations serving agriculture to provide the best products available for the production and use of forage." IFGC is an affiliate of the American Forage and Grassland Council and hosts annual events including hay expos and symposiums, and publishes The Forager newsletter, previously the IFGC Newsletter, four times a year.
